LiFePO4 vs AGM leisure batteries in winter

The question we get asked most in motorhome groups: how does lithium compare to a standard AGM leisure battery in cold weather? Usable energy is the big gap – a 100Ah AGM gives roughly 50Ah usable before voltage sags, while a 100Ah LiFePO4 delivers nearly the full 100Ah and holds voltage flat until empty. In winter that means diesel heaters and fridges keep running instead of cutting out at 11.8V.

The caveat is charging below freezing: quality LiFePO4 batteries (including Redodo's Bluetooth models) have low-temperature charge protection that blocks charging under ~0°C to protect the cells – discharging still works. Park charging for midday, insulate the battery box, and prefer models with cold-weather protection if you camp year-round.
